TAPICON 2010 to be held in Chennai

6th Annual Conference of the Association Of Physicians of India – Tamil Nadu State Chapter – TAPICON 2010 was inaugurated today by Thiru. V. K. Subburaj, I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Government, Health & Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Chennai at Hotel Savera, Chennai. This conference is being hosted by the API, Chennai Chapter and is being held in Chennai for the first time. This conference paved the way for experts as well as general physicians and specialists in various streams of medicine to meet under one roof to deliberate and share their expertise.
Dr. Muralidhar S. Rao, All India President, Association of Physicians of India was the Guest of Honour and released the souvenir on TAPICON 2010.
This two day seminar is showcasing many interesting and informative lectures, Orations, Work Shops and Paper presentations. During the session the three Gold Oration Awards are presented. Prof.M.S.Amaresan Gold Medal Oration will be delivered by Dr.Ashok Kumar Das, Senior Professor & Medical Superintendent, Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry. Prof. M.Viswanathan Gold Medal Oration will be delivered by Prof.Jerzy Leowsky, Regional Adviser, Noncommunicable Diseases, World Health Organization, Regional Office for South East Asia, New Delhi and Prof. G.Ananthasubramaniam Gold Medal Oration will be given by Dr. Calambur Narasimhan, Director of Arrhythmia- Electrophysiology Services, Care Hospital, Hyderabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr.S.S.Lakshmanan, Organizing Secretary of TAPICON, informed that 500 delegates including PG Students from all over Tamil Nadu are participating in this two day conference. He said, “It is becoming essential for the medical fraternity to become aware of various medical ailments which affect people and the latest technological breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment of them and would facilitate medical practitioners to understand and treat them more effectively”.

Dr.S.N.Narasingan, the Organizing Chairman, spoke about the Memorandum of Understanding signed by API- Chennai Chapter and BCMS (Bexar County Medical Society) San Antonio in 2008, as part of a sister city relationship between Chennai and San Antonio. He also told that the API- Chennai Chapter has trained over 1500 Post Graduate students from all over the country in the All India Post Graduate Training Programme.

The newly elected Chairman of API-TNSC, Dr.Vijay Viswanathan informed that the association plans to conduct the Tamil Nadu Health Survey and collect data on Noncommunicable diseases from different districts of Tamil Nadu. A program will be rolled out in different parts of the state, to create awareness on the prevention of Noncommunicable diseases in the community.

Covering a rich variety of subjects, technologies and practices, the Conferences will focus on application than theory. It will bring together an array of experts from all over the Tamil Nadu to deliberate and discuss the latest developments in the field of medicine.
