My Top Three Movies

The A Team Movie Trailer - It used to be that April was the last in a long line of slow movie months that stretched from after Christmas to the first weekend in May, largely because movie companies spend the time gearing up for the summer blockbuster season. Theoretically, movie goers spend more money on movies in the summer, which leads studios to hold their big releases until then. However, in recent years, this dynamic has been changing drastically because studios found that audiences will pay to see films no matter what the season. Movies like "300" and "Fast & Furious" preformed much better than anticipated at the box office, despite their spring releases. This April, three movies are poised to make a big splash at the box office.

1."Clash of the Titans" (April 2) Take the star of the most profitable movie of all time, put him in a remake of the greatest mythological story ever told on film, add in a little Liam Neeson and you have the ingredients for a box office hit. Sam Worthington stars as Perseus in this retelling of the 1981 cinema classic. That sees him facing off against Liam Neeson as Zeus. The movie was originally scheduled for release at the end of March but after the overwhelming success of Avatar, Warner Brothers rushed to convert the film to 3-D. From monstrous scorpions to sandal swordplay "Clash of the Titans" looks to embody the word epic in every way.

2."Kick-Ass" (April 16) A superhero movie about superheroes that no one has ever heard of may sound like a risky idea for a movie. So how is it that this film is becoming one of the most talked about movies of the year? "Kick-Ass" hasn't been around as long as some of the more famous superheroes like Batman or Spiderman. This comic book series began in early 2008 written by comic book genius Mark Millar, also known for the graphic novel turned film, "Wanted." However, the simple premise of people taking up the challenge of becoming superheroes without superpowers seems to have struck a positive chord. "Kick-Ass" looks to be the first film as that will be able to combine comedy and the superhero genre successfully.

3."The Losers" (April 23) Another comic book movie, but this one looks like a rip off of the "A-Team." So why is it on this list? Well, while this summer's movie update of the "A-Team" TV series looks all kinds of awful, "The Losers" looks to be all kinds of awesome. The story goes that a government Special Forces team goes on a mission, ends up being betrayed and is forced to become mercenaries. Not the most original story, but the previews show it strives to be so much more than predictable. The cast includes two comic book movie veterans: Jeffery Dean Morgan from "Watchmen," playing the leader of the group and Chris Evans from the "Fantastic Four" stepping outside his comfort zone playing the team's tech expert. Look for this movie to put some new creative twists on what may seem like conventional ground.
